History of the department

The Department of Social Communications is conditioned by the region’s needs for skilled social communications personnel.

Journalism began its existence in the Rivne region since 2002 at the Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature of the Faculty of History and Philology of the International University “Academician Stepan Demianchuk Rivne Institute of Economics and Humanities”.

The Department of Journalism at the Faculty of History and Philology of International University “Academician Stepan Demianchuk Rivne Institute of Economics and Humanities” was created in 2003.

The Faculty of Mass Communication and Information Technology was created as a new structural unit at the International University “Academician Stepan Demianchuk Rivne Institute of Economics and Humanities” in 2005. The two departments began its work at the faculty: the Departments of Editing and Publishing, and the Departments of Theories and Techniques of Journalistic Creativity.

Mitchuk Olha Andriivna has been appointed to the position of the Head of the Department of Editing and Publishing of the Higher Education Institution of the Academician Stepan Demianchuk International University of Economics and Humanities since 2005.

The Department of Publishing and Editing was renamed into the Department of Advertising and Media Languages in 2011.

The Department of Advertising and Media Languages was renamed into the Department of Social Communications in 2017.

The teaching of professional courses are provided by Yurii Eduardovych Finkler Doctor of Science in Philology, Professor of the Department of Social Communications, Member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Olha Andriivna Mitchuk Doctor of Science in Social Communications, Assistant Professor, Professor of the Department of Social Communications, Member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Member of the Science Commission of Journalism and Information at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Antonina Volodymyrivna Zubarets, Lecturer, Postgraduate Student of the Academician Stepan Demianchuk International University of Economics and Humanities, Andrii Petrovych Velesyk, Honoured Journalist of Ukraine, Associate Professor, General Director of Regional State Television and Radio Company (RSTRC), Andrii Ivanovych Babinets, Honoured Journalist of Ukraine, Associate Professor, Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper “Vilne Slovo (Free Word)” and leading employees of advertising agencies and leading employees of press services.

Meetings, speeches, trainings by leading editors and scientists are held to establish cooperation with Ukrainian and international organizations.

The high level of qualification of the leading teachers of the University allows them to work on the main goal of the educational work – training specialists who meet the highest modern requirements of the market and will work to provide the Ukrainian society with quality in content, form and printing material for advertising products.
