Student News Agency (SNA)

The Student News Agency (SNA) of the Academician Stepan Demianchuk International University of Economics and Humanities, which started in 2007, is an effective tool for practical training for students of the Faculty of Journalism. The structure is based on the principles of the world's largest news agencies, including Ukrinform and UNIAN, in particular with regard to the operation of their press centres.

This is primarily about the method of organising and conducting press conferences, round tables, briefings, Internet conferences, video bridges, seminars, meetings introduced in the SNA. These include: providing a hall, announcing the event, inviting the media, meeting and registering participants, posting and distributing a press release, online broadcast of the event, preparation and publication of final materials, photography, audio and video recording of the event, placing a customer banner in the SNA press room.

The purpose - SNA, as well as Academician Stepan Demianchuk IUEH in general, was the main media platform during the first Assembly of winners of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize, other events of international and national level, including scientific and practical conferences.

The organisation of such meetings is based on scientific and practical basis, because it involves the implementation of theoretical knowledge of students during the preparation of questions that will be addressed to the guest at a press conference. The student, having formulated them, participates in the competition for the right to ask the most meaningful, most relevant of them. A similar principle is also the basis for writing press releases and presenting them to local media, accredited in Rivne region to their own correspondents of all-Ukrainian newspapers and magazines, TV and radio companies. This creates a competitive environment that encourages the future journalist to acquire the skills of a competent, intelligent, erudite and polite person - that is, to take the path of educating himself as also an interesting, equal interlocutor.

The result of this approach is that all press conferences held by students in the SNA were held at a high professional level. For example, the winner of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, poet Roman Lubkivskyi, Director General of Khmelnytsk NPP, expert of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Honoured Power Engineer of Ukraine Mykola Panashchenko and many others noted that their lives have never been such a successful and meaningful press conference, as in SNA of the Academician Stepan Demianchuk IUEH.

Another part of SNA technology is writing interviews based on press conferences, as well as texts of other genres - reports, , reviews, analytical articles, essays, etc. These materials are provided by students to the media, thus making the first independent steps in journalism.

This is preceded by theoretical and practical work at the Faculty of Journalism of Academician Stepan Demianchuk IUEH, in which the priority is the formation of an extraordinary creative personality. Here, in particular, while studying the course "Agency Journalism" master the standards of news of modern news agencies Ukrinform, UNIAN, AFP, SUMMER, ELTA, Associated Press, United Press International, PAP. In their activities, students in the SNA adhere to the basic principles of news agencies - efficiency, accuracy, reliability, balance, separation of facts from comments and assessments, completeness of information.

This year, similar work continues. It is also focused on the project of the Faculty of Journalism "Constellation of Merit", launched in 2018. Therefore, the guests - people who have enriched the world with wisdom, in the SNA have the opportunity to reveal the principles of their lives to inquisitive future journalists, who are educated by the Academician Stepan DemIanchuk International University of Economics and Humanities.

SIA has also become a platform for testing ideas in a scientific and practical laboratory for media coverage of nuclear power plants in Ukraine. In 2019, SNA also held an on-site press conference at Rivne NPP with its CEO Pavlo Pavlyshyn.

In 2019, the SNA celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian National News Agency Ukrinform by holding a remote audio press conference with its editor-in-chief Olha Korostelova, during which the tasks and style of work of the agency's own correspondents in the regions of Ukraine were discussed.

The SNA also honoured the memory of Vasyl Pylyp′iuk, a former professor of photography of the Academician Stepan Demianchuk IUEH and winner of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine.

The desire to be successful, patriotic, advanced people of their time is a feature of the students of the Faculty of Journalism of the Academician Stepan Demianchuk IUEH, and they all participate in the SNA and profess their original oath, which is given in the second year: “To write about what no one has written about, and if one has written, it is unsuccessful"
